A Little Wedding Planning Peek

January 14, 2012

I’m all Wedding at the moment. It’s all I can think about. But in a good way. I’m just so excited. In six weeks time my man and I will be getting married. Six weeks.

At the moment we’re shopping around for wholesale florists. I’m lusting after cream flowers, a pre-requisite being nothing ridiculously expensive. We’re pretty open to whatever will look lovely. The above flowers are just a bunch I picked up at Prahran Market, they’re not Wedding inspiration. I just love having fresh flowers in the house, that’s all. We are thinking possibly a few different style of blooms at the Wedding, including white hydrangeas (we’re aware they wilt easily in heat and require water!). Any flower suggestions are very welcome, please send them our way. I know Ben is absolutely itching to know what blooms we’ll settle on…

No, really, Ben is wonderful. I’m so lucky to have a partner actually interested in all the details. Perhaps it’s easy for him because we truly are just throwing a big party, full of everything that we love.

I will share all the details after the wedding, which is six weeks away, remember? Six. Yeah, I have a lot to do. Luckily I am surrounded by my gorgeous man, supremely beautiful, supportive bridesmaids and friends, positively perfect parents and truly wonderful future in-laws to help me out. I’m so spoilt. But you know what? They’re all so genuinely happy to help, and truly seem just as excited for the festivities ahead. And we have a lot to look forward to! Starting with our Hens and Bucks nights, then onto some girly fun like a Kitchen Tea and a Bridesmaids Sleepover (bridal movie night!). And then of course the Wedding, as well as a small Brunch the following day…

I’m just so incredibly excited I can hardly contain it.

Time for some pictures? I thought so. Here’s a snapshot for you. Only a little wedding planning peek because I don’t want to spoil anything for my friends and family attending. But here we go nonetheless, a fun little look…

Our Save the Dates, created by the lovely and talented Vicky. She’s only into small jobs at the moment, it’s not something she does a lot of. So we were incredibly lucky. I find them to be very adorable.

Our Wedding Invitations, also printed by Vicky, all packaged-up, and with a little sweet inside to boot. We handed most of these out to save on costs. I’ll show you what they looked like after the wedding – otherwise I’d have to cover up the details and, well, that would just be nowhere near as pretty. And what’s the point then?

There will be many Jars at this Wedding, that’s for sure. I bought 90 jars off the divine Merowyn from Blithely Unaware. I feel comforted by the fact that there will be so many lovely jars to fill with beautiful flowers and candles. Pretty pretty pretty.

There will be lots of Brown String…seriously, I seem to be planning on using it everywhere.

There will also be Candy. Naturally.

My Wedding Shoes. Simple, pretty flats.

These flats are from Witchery, and I know quite a few people who have them. I’ve been trying to wear them in so they’re super comfy on the big day. I always wanted to wear flats because although Ben is a good 6cm taller than me, I feel that heels often make me feel a bit too tall. Nothing against girls who are taller than their man, I’m just going with what makes me comfortable.

Our Planing Board, complete with codes and spelling mistakes. It’s helpful and cute at the same time. What’s not to love?

So that’s where we’re at. After flowers, perfecting the menu will be on my mind – the good stuff. Mum, Ben and I are also busy scouring op shops for certain goodies. And I have a full hair trial on the 6th, which I am incredibly thrilled about. I was previously thinking of wearing my hair half up, however now I’m dreaming of an elegant ‘up do’. We’ll see. I quite often fall asleep planning my wedding hair…And then I think of the food. The good stuff.

I hope you enjoyed this little snapshot. I wish I could show you more, but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a little longer. Just six weeks, remember? Ok, I need to stop tormenting myself with this countdown.

As an ex-florist my advice is to go for multiple shades of cream/ whites. If you don't the photos look flat and just blur into a solid colour block. Roses are always fantastic of course, especially if you get them earlier in the week so they are startingto open, tuber roses are nice and tall and highly scented, cream mini gerberas have a lovely sooty middle and are not as brash as the full sized ones, and there are always lillies, just make sure you remove the stamens or they will strain your dress.
Best advice its go to the markets, see what's around, and ask the suppliers/ growers what they'll have available in 6 weeks!

Gotta love a wedding. We had loads of DIY elements at our wedding way back in ancient 1999 and they are the elements I remember most. We popped the day before to the Wholesale Flower Market at Footscray, but alas they no longer allow the public. I hope you're on Pinterest my dear? I love the inspiration and sharing there. As a virtual bridal shower gift, I've started a "for Heidi" board here for you with some pretty pics: http://pinterest.com/emmastirling/for-heidi/ If anyone wants to add to this board for Heidi, connect with me on Pinterest and I'll make you a contributor. Hannah – thank you, lovely. & yes the flowers were picked out with excellent assistance from a dear friend. That's why they're so great! If i had picked them out without you clearly they'd be terrible. It's the Hannah touch 😉

  • Yasmeen January 16, 2012 at 9:19 am

I am so, so excited to hear all about your big day and keep reading about your wedding planning. SIX WEEKS! That is so wonderful. We're at about the 5 month mark and yowza, there's still a lot to go.

We have a similar aesthetic with the jars (nice find from Merowyn!) and twine. I love the monochrome idea with your flowers, too – various shades of white and cream would look just dreamy.

So sweet of Emma to set up a pinboard for you. Pinterest has been so helpful for wedding inspiration! Glad I have someone else to get all Bridal with 🙂

  • Julia @ Boredom Abounds January 16, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Love the Save the Date – very sweet!

I also have a small collectinon of jars I'm saving to use for special occasions (although mine aren't as lovely as the ones you've bought!) They're such a nice, low-key way to display flowers.

  • Lisa January 17, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Oh so fantastically exciting! I haven't been to a wedding in ages so I'm loving this vicarious insight into the planning.

I'm not married but a friend gave several other friends this advice that is apparently good. On the morning of your wedding, take a little time to yourself. It can just be 5 or 10 minutes but you will be surrounded by people all day. So just take a few minutes for you, to stop, to think, to be centered. Somehow it has calmed every bride I know and just made them a little more "present" for want of a better word.

  • Heidi January 18, 2012 at 12:34 pm

    Rebecca – thank you!! 🙂

Sarah – squeee! So pumped, lady 🙂

msihua – haha love it, that's the best part – getting inspiration, planning & then stealing ideas 🙂

Yasmeen – I'm so excited for you too!!! So much fun to share inspiration 🙂 YAY!

Cat – thank you, how lovely 🙂

Julia – thanks, we loved the save the date too! & agreed – jars rock 🙂

Lisa – that is such beautiful advice, I really appreciate it. How wonderful. I will absolutely make time to do that. Thank you so much, lovely 🙂

  • chutneyandspice January 18, 2012 at 10:56 pm

bless you, such an exciting time in your life, so much to look forward to and plan for. We had cream flowers at our wedding – inside large glass bowls, cream roses which the florist made into a ball and put inside the bowl, they looked so simple and so pretty.
I wore flats too, my husband is only a little taller than me and I hate feeling like I'm the same height as him!
Good luck with all the planning and the fun, and savour every moment, its over far too quickly.

Aww, so exciting! I'm so happy for you Heidi! 😀

  • KittyCate January 22, 2012 at 1:48 pm

I seriously cannot WAIT to see your wedding pics, I know they are going to be amazing!
My bouquet and wedding flowers largely featured lots of lovely, relaxed cream lissianthus and silvery dusty miller leaves, plus big, blown roses. Very "country garden" feel. Another good option would be flannel flowers and jasmine, both white and unfussy and very sweet-smelling x
