Our first few weeks at home

September 20, 2015

We’re deep in a Joan love bubble over here. Ben and I have fallen hard for our little cherub, whom we call “Chub”. We call each other Chub also, an abbreviated form of “Cherub”. Across the room we’ll yell out to each other “Hey, Chub! Chub just did a giant poo!” To which the other Chub will reply, “Well done Chub!”. I suppose to outsiders it may seem like we’ve gone a little mad, and perhaps in those first newborn weeks you do. Anyone who’s a parent will know what I’m talking about. But it’s a sweet kind of madness, where everything this tiny little person does is magical and new and touches your heart so magnificently you think you might burst. It’s a time of learning how to take care of your baby and learning how to take care of each other, how to nurture your new parent, sleep deprived selves. It’s a blessed and challenging time. The three of us are growing in many ways and it’s exhausting and beautiful and hard at times. But oh, those sweet, soft, baby snuggles…

Here are some photographs from our first few weeks at home.

So beautiful <3 She is such a perfect combination of you both. I remember my two as newborns as though it were just last week, most days I am in disbelief that I have a 3.5 year old and 8 month old. It goes way too fast but looks like you're taking in every precious moment x

This is just magic! I’ve felt so daunted of late about possible motherhood, being one of the last in our group to have kids, the question is always posed to us and I truly felt terrified and not even sure about it all! But your blog is just so beautiful, raw, captivating. Sure it highlights the challenges – but those blissful, fleeting early days/weeks/months/years – so perfectly captured. This blog is like a time capsule for Joan! Light & love, Sam xx

    • Heidi October 6, 2015 at 9:13 am

Oh, Sam, that is so sweet of you to say! Thank you. Light and love back to you x

She is gorgeous and so petite! Love the many faces… very expressive! My boy (2nd baby born on 26 August) weighed in at a whopping 4.33 kg at birth and is now just over 5kg… and this with a tongue and lip tie that have just been corrected. Yikes! Lovely following your journey of new parenthood on Instagram too… Despite the sleep deprivation, the newborn stages are pretty amazing x

    • Heidi October 6, 2015 at 9:15 am

4.33, wowsa lady! I’m clapping over here. Such an amazing stage (yes, despite the sleep deprivation 😉 & with two kidlets, well done!!) x
