Ladies Who Lunch
The day I arrived in New York City I was reunited with my girls, and we became Ladies Who Lunched. I usually favour meeting up for breakfast or dinner with friends, lunch really gets neglected. Not this time, it was fabulous.
Unfortunately, Bhey, our beautiful friend who lives in NYC with her man, had to work. So it was just Peta, Vicki and I who were lunching together. But after four days of being a lady who lunched solo in San Francisco, lunching with three of my ladies was just glorious.
We started off our day strolling to the station near Bhey's apartment, walking past the famous Katz's Deli and Russ and Daughters.
Our first destination was Central Park, where we walked to our lunch destination...
... The Loeb Boathouse. Yes, we totally went here because of the Sex and the City episode when Carrie meets with Big and falls into the lake in an attempt to avoid his kiss (you know the episode I'm talking about, right?) This restaurant is right on the lake and has a lovely open-style setting. The menu is not cheap, but we decided to treat ourselves.
We started with Iced-Coffees - espresso over ice. This was very necessary after my 6 hour overnight flight and decidedly poor night's sleep.
For our entrées (mains are called 'entrées' in The States - it's initially quite confusing) we all ordered something very befitting of lunching ladies...
Peta ordered the Lobster Roll with Salad, which was lovely, very fresh. Lobster Rolls are popular in this part of America and I can see why, with the beautiful Maine Lobsters on offer.
Vicki ordered the Beetroot and Gorgonzola Salad - earthy, roasted beetroot salads are so fantastic, they're one of my favourites. This ones was really yummy.
I ordered the New York State Rainbow Trout, which came with Frissé, Fingerling Potato, Mushroom Fricassee, String Beans and a Citrus Dressing. It was spectacular - incredibly fresh, vibrant and nourishing. All I needed was a crisp, cool glass of Sauvignon Blanc...
After lunch we crossed the park to the Park Avenue Armory on the Upper East Side to see the Shakespeare Play, The Winter's Tale.
It was absolutely wonderful, the cast from the Royal Shakespeare Company were fantastic. I had never seen this play before so it was such a treat. I kept pinching myself that I was actually in New York City. Seeing a play. It was all just far too cool.
After the play we walked to Grand Central Terminal, just to see this beautiful structure. Grand it is, a truly stunning interior.
Downstairs we found frozen yoghurt and then set about learning which coins are which (you'd think the larger the coin the more value, but you'd be wrong). Vicki was our currency instructor - she's been to The States a few times, as she has family there.
And then we headed home, to find our other lady. How lucky am I to have had such an incredible trip to an amazing City with my fabulous ladies?... Many more lunches took place. And breakfasts...and dinners and drinks.
